A game of two halves - how kind!

Profile: Oaklea, 17th Feb, 2021

Today is "World Random Act of Kindness Day" - yes who knew...And here's a lovely tale of Oaklea doing their bit!

A few weeks ago our very own Registered Care Manager Vanessa “Queen V” Washington alerted us to a football table that was surplus to requirements at one of the Oaklea South Lakes properties. Well to cut the game down to size….we put an appeal out on social media channels at end of January. There was a huge response and it went to extra time (though we were thankfully spared a penalty shoot out!) -and we decided it would go to a local Children’s Home -yay!

Gently does it team….no time for half time oranges…

So on “Random act of kindness day” the table was collected (Feb 17th) - a great team effort by our social care employees at Manor Barn and Stephanie Jane from Cumbria County Council.

No time for a quick game then? (by the way on the left is Emily C -she has been a product of the Oaklea Apprentice Academy run in conjunction with Kendal College - so she really is our super sub off the bench!)

Stephanie Jane from the Children’s Home in Kendal & Carlisle said it will mean a lot to the young people they support:

Top transfer target: Below one of the homes it’s going to in Kendal….and the occasional transfer window signing will allow for a visit to another Children’s Home in Carlisle……#kindness

Full time -Well after a quick DIY job with an allen key to take the legs off…the team soon had it ready in Steph’s car!

Well done everyone……they shoot they score on #randomactofkindness day!
