Oaklea are extremely pleased to announce they've just won a big funding pot to aid their Green Mentor programme for young people in Cumbria.
Above: Looking ahead for a greener future in Eden District
You will recall we have told you about our newly launched ‘Think Green’ programme across South & East Cumbria earlier this Spring (more here http://www.oakleatrust.co.uk/what-we-do/young-people/green-futures)
Well Oaklea Trust is delighted to develop this further -we have received a grant for just over £16K for year 1 of a 2-year project, from Cumbria Community Foundation towards this Green Mentor Scheme.
Oaklea Director Sue Green:
“The project is designed to engage and inspire young people from across the Westmorland area of Cumbria, to take part in environmental learning and action. We will be able to fund a Green Mentor Youth leader to recruit and support groups of young people in environmental social action projects. The age range of beneficiaries is 13-18 years old. This project fits with our workplace behaviour of being kind, in this case to the planet and develops the partnership with the Ernest Cook Trust who initially launched this concept across the UK. “
Massive thanks to the Westmorland Family Community Fund for supporting this project (you know them best for the acclaimed services on the M6 etc)
The money is specifically for the Eden District area - notably Kirkby Stephen/Appleby/Tebay/Orton.
Sue adds: “Our existing funders, Ernest Cook Trust are delighted that we have been able to add value to their existing funding.”
A part time job advert for Green Mentor Youth Leader will be going out soon to start September 2021. (Keep an eye on our latest vacancies page)
Huge thanks go to CCF and of course the Westmorland Family Community Fund.
Blue skies ahead for young people thanks to our funders - The Lune Gorge near Tebay
