Profile: Oaklea, 22nd Jul, 2019
Earlier this month Oaklea Trust ran a brief campaign in the local media to attract new Trustees for our Cumbria based Charity. Encouraging people to join as a Trustee/Board member is an ongoing challenge for most Third Sector organisations –as people are increasingly time poor, may not feel it’s for them and do not possess the right skillset. We were therefore extremely satisfied to get the response we got – in fact the best we’ve had in nearly 30 years!
Oaklea Chair, Cate Grimes and CEO Clive Wigley spent a busy week interviewing prospective Trustees to join the Board of Oaklea.
Clive Wigley, CEO of Oaklea Trust: “We are delighted with the response - we had a very strong field of applicants and given the number of vacancies we will have following the Oaklea AGM later this year.We now have 6 individuals joining us – initially they will come to us on a trial basis to see if it’s for them. They all have the particular skills we sought-such as legal and financial experience. We had a number of skills gaps on the Oaklea Board and have managed to marry up those skills gaps with those who came forward. By reaching out the way we did – emphasising the very specific needs and expertise we needed has proved a great success. The process is not over as applications are still coming in and we plan to hold a second round for potential new recruits.”
Cate Grimes, Chair Oaklea Trust adds: “This is a larger number of Trustees than we have previously recruited at any one time but given the indications I have received of Trustees who will leave at the AGM, we felt we should boost the numbers – particularly given the high calibre of applicants we have received this time. “
