Profile: Appleby Hub, 06th Jun, 2016
On Saturday 28th of May, the Appleby Hub hosted it's debut Hubcraft Market day to celebrate the launch of our fantastic community building.
Stalls were fully booked at our first ever Hubcraft Market day, which will run on the last Saturday of every month. Stalls featured local produce, crafts, upcycling, plants, bee keeping, pre-loved furniture, and much more! Visitors were also able to buy a special edition “Westmorland Smokey”: a sausage made especially for the event using Westmorland Chutney by Eden Valley Smokehouse. A great start for Hubcraft, made all the more special with live music from Karen West.
VIP Martin Stephenson dropped by and we were also joined by members of the Rotary who stayed for the day and opened up the second hand book shop with a half price sale to help celebrate the launch. The book shop is back and will be manned on a Saturday between 10am and 1pm, with some great bargains to be had.
The organisers were bowled over by the support from the local community “it’s been fantastic to see the results of a lot of hard work since the floods in December. We hope the re-opening of the Hub reflects the general feeling of Appleby getting back on its feet after everything the community has been through in the last few months. The hub is a really versatile space which can be used for all kinds of things, and we are very excited for the future!” – Oaklea Director Sue Green.
Oaklea took over the running of Centre 67 in October and have given it a new identity as the Appleby Hub. We have already welcomed lots of community groups, some of which were regulars to Centre 67, others who are new to it.
