Never one to let a blowing of our own trumpet to go amiss……you may recall we told you about the ‘Caring in Covid’ Book we are featuring in this Christmas….well it’s launched today and is a perfect stocking filler says Santa (!)

We featured through our ‘supporting stronger communities’ work in #Lockdown1 via the Right2Work Appleby Hub food delivery offer to those isolated and shielding in the rural Eden Valley and the market town of Appleby.

Here’s our page….and some of the characters involved: You can see Jim Green from R2W Community Works, members of Appleby Health Centre, Patrizia and Mandy from the Hub Cafe and Charlotte -one of our top learners at the ever tasty Hub Cafe (not sure who the other 2 are….read on…)

Here’s what NCF Executive Director Vic Rayner says:

“NCF launches ‘Caring in COVID’ ebook – a collection of stories about care, communities and leadership during the pandemic. We are delighted to launch this incredible book that brings together the experiences of the care sector during what has been a relentless and sometimes-thankless task of caring and supporting some of the most vulnerable in our communities during the pandemic. Thank you for your contribution to this important record of social history that highlights the incredible response from you, our members.”

You can download the book here – it’s huge hence why you need to click via the NCF link and scroll to the book -it’s too big to attach as a PDF!

What the Book is all about – Vic Rayner again from NCF:

“This compendium details how, during the COVID-19 pandemic and ensuing restrictions, NCF members and the communities they serve, came together and rose to the challenge to support those who needed it most. Not only will the ebook become part of the British Library collection for future generations, it also acknowledges the legacy of 2020 and the role care providers played in the fight against COVID-19.

How do you demonstrate leadership, caring support and a sense of community through unprecedented times? So many care organisations have stories of almost daily donations being made to homes, from fish and chips to pizzas, cleaning products and PPE as well as gift bags for every care worker. The experiences of the care sector during what has been a relentless and sometimes-thankless task of caring and supporting some of the most vulnerable in our communities.”

Eggstra effort 4 Community partnerships – Westmorland Services Ltd donated top of the range Easter Eggs -so we ran a competition to put a smile on people’s faces!

Through the collection of Caring Heroes stories, the reader peeks behind the closed doors and experiences what it was really like for care staff, residents in care homes, and people needing support in their own homes during lockdown. This book is more than just a nod to social history; it demonstrates how people’s lives are enriched by the role of those working in the care sector through their creativity, dedication and passion, and through their many skills and talents.”
