Who says reading is a ‘waste’ of time – not at R2W

Oaklea CIC Right2Work’s (R2W) Furniture Warehouse (FW) has been featured in 54,000 households this Christmas!

Furniture Warehouse (FW) supremo Chris(mas) Pantechis can be seen having a cracking read of ‘Lakeland News’ – this publication goes to every house in South Lakeland (54,000 homes) -and this edition, the big focus is on recycling for Christmas. The FW of course feature heavily thanks to the work we do in partnership with South Lakeland District Council (SLDC) and the collection of bulky waste.

Councillor Dyan Jones, SLDC’s Portfolio Holder for Environment, said: “This is a successful and innovative service which helps residents to dispose of items they no longer want, helps those with learning difficulties to gain confidence and valuable work skills and helps to reduce the impact on the environment.”

Residents wishing to make use of R2W/SLDC’s bulky waste collection service should telephone 01539 733333.

Saw you coming – You may also spot there’s a lovely item on Joe from FW – he has made great strides since joining the team! Here he is with Dan -another one of the regulars at FW.

Peter Bradbury, R2W Regional Manager, said: “Meaningful learning no longer involves people with learning difficulties doing jigsaws and painting. The council’s bulky waste contract is a vehicle for us to offer training. Here they get involved in recycling, learn about delivery, collection and customer service skills and much more. It is all about offering meaningful activity, encouraging them to work together and boosting their confidence. For many of them the end goal is achieving sustainable employment.”

In 2018/19, Right2Work successfully helped 57 disabled or disadvantaged people into paid work.
