Dan – he’s no mug – he’s lovin’ it
“They’re all doing really well and are achieving lots of goals in life which is great to see.” Patricia Lee, Team Manager, Murton
This is Dan – we’re gonna tell you a bit about him as he gets up to all sorts in the NE! Dan lives in Murton near Seaham in County Durham.

Dan has a packed itinerary every week:
- Monday – Shaw Trust, Seaham
- Wednesday – Befriending at a local care home
- Friday – Shaw Trust, Seaham
He’s going places…let Dan welcome you to his new abode
He’s taking you in because – he’s had a big positive change of late. The Oaklea team in Murton have helped him move to a ground floor room – which makes life a lot easier – well let Dan tell you:
It’s a Shaw Thing – I love it here says Dan

When Dan isn’t busy catching up on the Villa scores or having a few scoops at his favourite watering hole on Seaham Harbour – he goes to the Shaw Trust Garden Centre community enterprise (very like our Right2Work Furniture Warehouse offer) in nearby Seaham.

He’s a much loved member of the team at Shaw Trust and loves getting stuck in, learning new skills and making new friends.

To Don to Dan!
As an Aston Villa Brummie in the NE – He loves gently winding up all the newly promoted Sunderland fans at Shaw Trust too! Here you can see him with his mentor Don Green from the Shaw Trust -something about six pints er six points says Dan!
Background: The Shaw Trust Garden Centre in Seaham is on a five acre horticultural site, where they work with adults with learning disabilities from County Durham (More on Shaw Trust nationally here – a leading employment based charity https://shawtrust.org.uk/)
Upstairs downstairs
While Dan moved downstairs – his housemate, Calum took his upstairs room – You will recall we have featured Calum before due to his voluntary work at Durham Cathedral.

Space – the final frontier!
Here’s Calum on his new room with a view…
Everyone is on the move…
Whilst Dan & Calum have new home space – not to be outdone – James is heading off to his favourite place – a nearby day centre with Oaklea support, Jean and Aymee (out of shot)!

Note – We would have shown you James’s room – but our webmaster was too traumatised as it was a total shrine to Manchester United – couldn’t even hide under the duvet as even that was Man U!(and the day had been going so well!)
Peek-a-boo – That’s enough for now…
You can see Dan hanging out with Murton Team Manager, Patricia Lee – life truly blooming for our Dan and pals.

“Calum and Dan are both really enjoying their voluntary work. Dan is now out in the community working three times a week, at the Shaw Trust Garden Centre which he loves and more recently he is at a local care home once a week where he keeps all of the residents entertained!” Patricia Lee

Patricia adds: “As you can see we recently supported Dan with a move from his upstairs flat to a ground floor room, which is much better for his mobility and will certainly help him in the future and Calum immediately took over the vacant flat as it is such a lovely large space.”
Raise a cheer for the entire team at Murton – many thanks for their input!
