Everyone HAF to say cheese!
Throughout the summer holidays we have been running #HAF2024 activities and trips for eligible young people (more here https://www.oakleatrust.co.uk/holiday-activities-fund/)
Field to fork

Appropriately as HAF is the Holiday Activity & Food Programme – we finished down on the farm!
Lets meet some of the locals….

Some of our regular HAFFERS had a trip to Piper Hole Goat Farm in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. It’s a prime example of how our young people could see the whole food journey from field to fork! The farm has around 50 goats for milking and they make a goats cheese to a unique recipe.

The world keeps churning…
The farm is near Ravenstonedale, Kirkby Stephen. Here Farmer Frank Hunter shows Connor how the raw goats milk becomes cheese.

Keep it simple when it comes to food miles
We caught up with Goat Farmer Frank just after he’d churned over a new round! He tells us why it’s important to think about where our food comes from…and why it’s a good thing!
Fully vetted!
Our visit was well timed as the local vet landed – he was there to check on the cattle (We’re not sure whether he then checked on Rachel & Brooke Louise for spontaneous bale dancing!). Farming is 24/7 and there’s always something happening…

Goats go global

The Piper Hole goats cheese is also on its way to Portugal for the World Cheese Championships next month! Frank gives us a taste:
Are you the goat herder Jayden?

Well – that’s sorted – you could say we got this trip wrapped up!

Thank you for dropping by and not acting the goat -that’s my role!

#HAF is brought to you with support from our funders…
