In the frame – 21 Years in County Durham

“It’s significance is that for many individuals we have supported them through considerable periods of their lives, good times and bad.” Oaklea Director, Sue Green

This September marked a significant milestone for Oaklea – we have been supporting & caring for people in County Durham for 21 years!

What a window of opportunities we have made – together…

In: Sherburn, Consett, Coundon, Seaham, Brandon, Barnard Castle, Spennymoor, Pelton, Shotton Colliery, Murton, Coxhoe and Ferryhill.

Across County Durham those we support and our employees celebrated….We could let the parrot do the talking….but the pictures tell you everyone made the most of this landmark occasion!

‘Howay’ the parrot!

Aloha Spennymoor Five O!

In Spennymoor they had a Hawaii themed party!

Fun, food and pineapple on a pizza? (Lets not go there…)

“Long may it continue” says Catherine!

Team Manager in Spennymoor, Catherine Rooney says: “We feel the care we offer is unique and long may it continue! I’ve been here eleven years and you really get to know the people we support – they’re really like family. That’s why everyone -staff and customers- had such a big input to the celebrations. It’s the little things throughout the year that make such a difference – putting on parties and events like this, the 1-2-1 time and ensuring those we support make the most of their community by getting out and about.”

Why marking our 21st is important

Oaklea Director, Sue Green:

“The 21st anniversary of Oaklea’s care and support in the County Durham area is a momentous milestone. It’s significance is that for many individuals we have supported them through considerable periods of their lives, good times and bad. Equally, colleagues have developed significant skills and experience along the way. All elements combining for a rich experience.”

Meanwhile lets head back to the celebrations

In Sherburn – things simply ballooned!

Oaklea’s man of many balloons – Graeme Cleasby -sent these supa snaps.

“Some photos from the 21st party held at our house in Sherburn, near Durham. We were joined by Oaklea customers from across County Durham – Pelton, Seaham and Coundon. We had a fab day! Played games and ate lots of food, which always goes down well. We had a cake made to celebrate the Oaklea 7 Keys of Citizenship, which was delicious” says Team Manager, Val Middleton

Sherburn assemble

It was a team effort by all – and much discussion about what to do with left over cake…..waddya mean…there was no leftovers!

“Thank you to all my staff team for making it such an amazing day. You make me proud every day!” Val Middleton, Team Manager, Sherburn

Working Behaviours – we got this!

To mark this momentous event – the teams created cakes that represented Oaklea and it’s ‘working behaviours‘ – so on brand and all in the best possible taste!

Here’s to the next 21 years…

We don’t want to burst our bubble yet…21 years of delivering the Oaklea Mission “To support and care for people and communities so they can learn, develop and thrive”

Where are we based?
