Project Edenside – Let demolition begin

A major announcement from Oaklea Group regarding our plans for the former Edenside Care home in Appleby, Cumbria.

Development moves forward

The Oaklea Trust has been working on achieving planning permissions for the site known as the former Edenside Care Home for some considerable time.  We are delighted to now be able to inform the local community that all the planning and relevant approvals are in place for us to be able to move the development forward.

The next phase in the development is the demolition of the existing building, and Oaklea will be working with Cumbria based family firm Hindle Demolition & Plant Limited to remove the existing building.

Parking for the public

Once this is completed Oaklea will be continuing the partnership with the Environment Agency allowing them use of the empty site as a car park for the public during their ongoing flood defence works in the town.

Timeline

Demolition work is expected to start week commencing 12 August 2024, with initial works inside the building before the community will see a change to the landscape when the building itself will be removed.

We anticipate the demolition works to be completed and ready to allow use by the Environment Agency in mid-October 2024.

Our contractors will keep disruptions, noise and access issues to a minimum and will be working to maintain high standards of safety throughout the project.

“The Oaklea Group would like to thank the local community of Appleby for their continued support and patience in this project.” Oaklea CEO, Clive Wigley.
