We walked into true community spirit!
“I learned that nature is full of surprises. Luckily we were stranded in a very supportive community and people were very nice.” Jordan Beach
Before this snowy tale begins…
Lets get our priorities right – Kian raises a glass to the Ambleside community…

It seems a distant memory now – but just a few days ago, much of the South Lakes and surrounds were blanketed with an exceptional snow cover.

Jordan, Kian and support Rachel, from our Learning2Live project in Windermere got stranded in Ambleside after the bus they were on got stuck in the unexpectedly heavy snow storm.
Winter wonderland…for some…

We were only on our way to the Christmas Market!

Home alone – in Ambleside!
As a result – They stayed overnight in the Ambleside Parish Centre which opened to provide a safe, warm shelter for the many people who became stranded there.

Drum roll please – A huge round of applause for the Ambleside community spirit
Team Manager for Learning2Live, Sarah Atkinson: “They (Kian/Jordan/Rachel) would like to say thank you very much for the warm welcome and food that they were given in the Parish Centre. The whole community pulled together to support those who couldn’t get home through the treacherous snowy conditions, providing food, shelter and donating blankets to make their stay as comfortable as possible. An extra special thanks goes to our team in Windermere who worked so hard to make sure they were safe and stayed calm through what was a very frightening situation for them. Can we also add Jordan’s Dad Mark, who managed to rescue them and bring them home in his work van on Sunday.”

Jordan’s Dad, Mark, runs his own business as a Forestry Engineer -so has some handy contraptions for such situations…not all heroes wear capes….

Didn’t they do well….we made it!

Here’s Sarah – she was full of praise for our young duo and support team (oh and super Dad Mark!)
Keep calm & sleep tight ‘Pontypines’…
Jordan & Kian: “All three of us had to stay in the shelter (Parish Centre) overnight, it was a strange experience but Rachel kept us calm.”

After all that excitement – we need some sleep!
But you don’t have to get too comfortable at the Parish Centre lads – you have your own beds to go to!
