The faces are new but the story has legs!
“Absolutely loved it – so good for self esteem and proves he can do things and gives him independence” Sheila Smith, mum of Billy
Now departing from Platform Oaklea Short Breaks
Getting traction -Back to the Future with Billy & Co!
Sometimes it’s good to look back….to see where we’ve got to from where we started…
Parklife -a far from BOARing story!
Oaklea Short Breaks returned to Bowland Wild Boar Park in Lancashire for the first time in 6 years – we last went in July 2018! There have been quite a few changes – our team, the Wild Boar Park and of course some of the young people we have supported.
Hanging in there!
Some of those we supported back in 2018 are still with us…
- Kyle and Harvey live with Oaklea in Kendal
- Jordan has been a key member of the Learning2Live group in Windermere
- Miya and Alex have been on the Right2Work Future Choices programme!
- Billy is still able to attend Short Breaks and has been on Future Choices too
- Plus Jemma with a J – she now works in the CYP Team!
Time travel – so lets go back to summer 2018! When we first went to Bowland Wild Boar Park – then bowling in Preston – Harvey strikes!
The GOAT – Greatest short breaker of all time?
The mainstay over these six years has been Billy! When not arm wrestling our driver/webmaster/comms maestro….he likes to be in the frame!
Billy was on the visit in 2018 – and returned yesterday! Many parents & carers regularly tell us how important these activities are – for both the young people and for giving their carers some quality time too.
“Billy absolutely loved the trip – it’s good for his self esteem and proves he can do things and gives him independence. He also loves making sure everyone else has a good time – he’s really caring about others.” Billy’s mum Sheila
“He also found it really interesting to see how the Bowland Wild Boar Park had progressed since 2018!” Sheila adds

Some of the action from this year’s trip… and a honk honk with the geese!

We never act the GOAT…
Billy took this snap…..not sure wat he’s trying to tell us!
Nor do we take it lying down claims Anna…oh…..

Time to say goodbye for now…
