Radio silence – It’s not for everyone?

Two contrasting examples of how those we support make a difference in their communities -some by talking up their experiences -and another by maintaining a dignified silence!

Over in the North East – it’s all gone quiet!

Our very own top (shhhhhh) man about town (Barnard Castle division) Kit Heywood has been doing his bit for fellow charity MIND – by doing a sponsored silence! (Anyone who knows Kit will be aware this will be an Everest like attempt!) – it’s made such an impact he’s in the Teesdale Mercury (again!)

Thanks to Teesdale Mercury

“Enjoy the silence”

You can get some background to what Kit gets up to in his community here – when we featured him doing his voluntary work at the MIND shop in the town https://www.oakleatrust.co.uk/read-all-about-him-kit-that-is/

Meanwhile in South Lakes….we’re making Radio waves

This is Mollie from our Learning2Live (L2L) project in Windermere. She’s been on a work placement at the Kendal People’s Cafe since before Christmas (some background here https://www.right2work.org.uk/learning2live/spreading-winter-warmth-with-mollie/)

No half measures with Mollie

Here’s one I made earlier….

When she’s not making fabulous soup – she becomes a ‘Master Chef’ of the airwaves!

If you click on this link to BBC Sounds – you can hear her and colleague Sarah talking about what she’s been up to – go to 2:52:30 https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p0f08zg1

She’s very much ‘soup of the day’!

Sarah Atkinson from L2L “Mollie is nearing the end of her placement at the Waste into Wellbeing Winter Warmer Project. She has thoroughly enjoyed serving refreshments and preparing cooking kits for visitors to the project and it has been fantastic to see her grow in confidence. She is incredibly friendly and welcoming and has become a firm favourite with the regular visitors. We very much hope that Mollie can engage with future Waste into Wellbeing initiatives…watch this space!”
