There’s Summit Going on!
“Do it with a great team” – with or without snacks!
They came, they hiked, they talked silly stuff for 12 hours (!) and raised some funds for Oaklea! Yes folks the ‘Peaky Beardies‘ did their “Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge” with verve, dignity and failed to dodge some considerable downpours! (to save explaining why they did it -click here for back story https://www.oakleatrust.co.uk/heading-this-way-no-peaking-early/)
‘Peaky Beardies’ – reveal thyselves!

The trio aka ‘The Peaky Beardies‘ are (Sir) Charles Holdsworth – Oaklea Group Finance supremo, (Mr) Matty Douglas, CYP Team supremo and Snacky Si, Webmaster/Marketing and provider of much needed level headed seriousness.
Early doors gets the snacks – 0700 the Hike begins
Fresh faced and ready to go from Horton in Ribblesdale, North Yorkshire – the official start of the Three Peaks Challenge!
The walk covers a distance of 37.5 km (23.3 mi) to 42 km (26.1 mi) (depending on route) circuit of all three peaks with nearly 1,600 m (5,249 ft) of ascent and descent.

Penny for your thoughts
The first climb was to Pen-y-Gent (2,276 ft/694 metres)

Obligatory summit shot incoming -through the mists of time…

A side order of – Whernside (2,415 ft/736 metres)
This was probably the wettest and longest stretch…proper torrential downpours -and that wasn’t just the cheeky walking based puns from Sir Charles…

The slog up to Whernside was very wet – and it was shrouded in mist!

In fact the views were def worthwhile….well let the Peakies explain!
It’s all downhill from here…not so bad! (just watch out for the kissing gatekeeper…)

Last climb calling – Ingleborough (2,372 ft/723 metres)
Classic English summertime – from ‘liquid sunshine’, mists & pestilence to glorious blue sky thinking. The weather took a turn for the better…Mr Matty was regretting not bringing the Factor 100!

Pause for thoughts on the zig zag path up Ingleborough

Fundraising – it’s a breeze!
Here (Sir) Charles tells us why you should get involved in fundraising – it’s fun! This despite the wind…from the flanks of Ingleborough that is!
The final Hikedown
An apt moment to take stock & stroke the Beardies! Clearly Charles didn’t get the memo! (the signal is very weak up there!)

Flying high…..until the next time – waddya mean next time?
